Phillip Toledano – Days with my father

November6

This was a memoir of sorts – of photographs and memories and love with his father. Philip captured the most poignant moments of days left with his father shortly before he passed away.

An important underlying message was brought forward, to appreciate your loved ones before they are gone, and to remember to tell them that you love them before it’s too late.

Please visit the inspirational site at Days With My Father

Some very powerful images that stuck me – some made me laugh, some made me tear up.

Looklet

October14

Looklet is a fashion portal with all this clothes, and models which you can choose from and put together, not unlike a paperdoll, except these models look like they stepped out from Vogue.

Pretty neat!

Here are some of my combinations that I put together last night.

look7 Looklet

Look 1- i started with her head first, and decided that she would be a carefree college girl, a little on the edgy side but retaining her femininity- i would totally wear her dress by Killah, it’s something that i can see myself in icon smile Looklet

look6 Looklet

Look 2- haha, this was my trendy girl who knew the latest fashion dos seeing her high waisted shorts and gladiators. i loved her glasses though- pretty funky icon mrgreen Looklet

look5 Looklet

Look 3- i love love love love dressing up as a boy sometimes – why limit this to streetwear? icon biggrin Looklet of course it helps if you’re 6 feet tall with a face like that and can look good with a paperbag on -__- but i thought she looked great here by pairing her up in oversized shorts, a flowy blouse and a blazer to sharpen the look. i added on the scarf and heels to soften down the look =) and every businesswoman should have a clutch with her!

look4 Looklet

Look 4- i lovee winter clothing and the idea of snuggling into soft warm fabric – such as scarves >_< i was ooh-ing and aah-ing through their selection of scarves. a lot of them look so thick and soft and snuggly! i dressed her up in a sweater-dress and added a very pretty coat. Then a polka dotted scarf to brighten up her look and boots to complete the whole set. this was one of my favourites – probably because i miss winter.

look3 Looklet

Look 5- i started to think what my girl would wear to a cocktail party- and came up with this icon mrgreen Looklet not much layering needed, just some heels, a bracelet and a clutch to show off her beautiful dress

look2 Looklet

Look 6- i love lazy slouchy dresses that you can just pull over without having to think- and out the door you go. so i attempted to make this girl dress that way- in a slouchy long tank and a cardi. i added a fringe bag and some black mary jane pumps to add a quirky touch to the look.

look1 Looklet

Look 7- this was the other version of “pull something out of the closet and out the door you go” look. this would probably be in early spring when the weather is warming up but it’s still slightly chilly! a scarf and booties to warm her up, i made her slightly funky with her face, and added pink retro sunnies icon mrgreen Looklet

look8 Looklet

Look 8- the last one was also one of my favourites- a classic belle. i loved her dress. i’ve always been meaning to find something like that. i added on a beautiful hat and a sling bag along with red pumps to complete the look. i really liked this piece.

hmm what did you guys think? which ones did you like?

Mininiam

August15

Mininiam is the birthchild of two artists – Akiko Ida and Pierre Javelle who specialise in the art of miniature photography. Some of these photographs are simply breathaking, quirky and refreshing. One of their introductory statements on the website was, “Who wouldn’t want to hideout in a cheesecake?” Indeed, who wouldn’t?

mininiam 1024x368 Mininiam

The gallery on the website is categorised into a few rather…deletable themes, as well as boyish childhood dreams. It is not surprising, considering Akiko has been a food photographer for many many years with most of her photography in culinary magazines.

I liked this two figurines of the artists – they really do look lifelike, don’t you think so?

Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

July22

The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has come up with a unique way to teach young kids (mostly) about physics through an interactive flash-based game based on real-time physics stimulation that you come across in everyday life. It’s called Simple Machines.

Twitch is a mini… well, Twitch is mini, but I’m not quite sure what he is. Anyway, Twitch is supposed to find various robotic parts that are missing and are required to complete the giant robot which are strewn all over the place.

museum science industry 1024x446 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

There are several stages, each aiming to teach a basic physics concept. The inclined plane, the wheel and axel and the pulley, all things that we’ve learnt in high school.

simplemachines2 1024x446 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

Here, Twitch has to find a way to obtain a robot part which is on top of a very tall radio. Users can pick several items where Twitch can use to find his way up there.

simplemachines3 1024x445 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

I made Twitch choose the pencil as the inclined plane. Thank god he managed to get up there.

simplemachines4 1024x446 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

It is educational because they also teach you the concepts around the theory. The less steep the inclined plane, the less force it takes to get to the top, and vice versa. This way, it is tremendously easy to remember and learn physics.

simplemachines5 1024x446 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

At this particular stage, Twitch has to use the wheel and axel to roll over to the other side to collect all the nuts and bolts.

simplemachines6 1024x447 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

simplemachines71 1024x446 Learning physics the easy way: Simple Machines

I picked a small wheel (Buttons, to be exact), and at the end they told me that using a bigger wheel would use less force. Cool! I myself did not know that.

It’s a really cool website. Go visit it at Simple Machines, Museum of Science

PSYOP: Not just your everyday ad agency

July16

PSYOP happens to be a multimedia design firm that has high-profile clients such as Starbucks, Coca Cola, Adidas, Absolut, HP and Converse, to name a few, under their belt.

psoyp PSYOP: Not just your everyday ad agency

PSYOP is not just an average ad agency: most of their animations are creative and definitely not run-of-the-mill. On its website’s portfolio, the agency states that “PYSOP seeks to win the hearts and minds of people through creative content that people willingly seek out”.

Remember the famous Coke ad where chaos bursting in colour and a dozen different characters were bursting into life heralding a Coke bottle from one side to the other until it ends in quiet down a vending machine slot? That ad was done by them.

cocacola PSYOP: Not just your everyday ad agency

I totally love the video design too, as if it were coloured in with a pencil.

cocacola2 PSYOP: Not just your everyday ad agency

It certainly does help that apart from the ads, the layout of the website is very easy on the eyes. I particularly love the whole sketchy theme. Then again maybe I’m biased. I always had an affinity for such themes.

Another noticeable ad I realised was the Haagen Daaz advertisements – PSYOP portrayed it in the unlikely form of honey bees in nature in all its full colourful glory to the booming dramatic tunes of opera music. Whatever does it has to do with ice cream? Well honey bees are dying, and they help produce many of Haagen Daz’ finest ingredients. The ad wants viewers to help save them. Pretty effective advertising, I would say

haagendaaz PSYOP: Not just your everyday ad agency

I think they have managed to live up to their tagline – which is borrowed off from the US Government’s Psychological Operations Division, “Persuade, Change, Influence.” And persuade, change and influence they did.
